Picking Up The Pieces

Spread the love

In Autumn 2018, I was triggered by several events and had a massive breakdown. It consumed my life. I’ve never truly recovered from it. But I’m working on healing.

Part of that work is picking up on creative pursuits I gave up on back then, including creating music. In 2014, my dear spouse hooked me up with DAW equipment and software. While I’ve played physical instruments in the past (clarinet, percussion, electric bass guitar, and cello), DAW is new to me and I had been making progress up until the breakdown. Then I just let the keyboard get buried, along with myself.

As part of my self-reboot efforts, I cleaned off the years of stratification layers of paperwork, photo albums, and assorted detritus off of my Axiom Air 49 and got it hooked up to power and USB last week. I also updated my FL Studio software to the latest and greatest.

But, I was still having trouble with getting the software and keyboard to talk to one another. Today, I discovered I had plugged the keyboard into a USB hub, not directly into my workstation, and swapped it to a USB input on the back of my machine. TA-DAAAA! Windows recognized the Axiom, and so did FL Studio!

I’m delighted to have it working! Now to create some music, like I always intended.
